



LANTRA AWARDS
SMJ Falconry 2010
The Lantra ‘Beginning Falconry Award’ has been developed by Lantra in unison with the Hawk Board and with the help and assistance of professional Falconers throughout the UK. It is suitable for those new to Falconry, or those who wish to keep Raptors and/or Owls.
It is also suitable for experienced Falconers/Bird of Prey keepers who want to achieve the Award. All aspects of bird of prey management and husbandry up to flying to the fist on the creance are covered in the Award.
Structure and content of the Award
The Award is divided into two units.
Unit 1.
Housing and hygiene. Feed and food preparation. Health. Species suitability, and purchasing your first bird.
Unit 2.
Essential falconry equipment, picking up and carrying, feeding, manning and initial training techniques. Weighing and weight management. Flying on the creance.
Both units must be achieved to be awarded the full Certificate in Beginning Falconry. The Award work books can be down loaded from the Lantra web site.
We run courses throughout the year.
The cost of a 4 day course including the Certificate is £500 per person.
This can be done over 4 consecutive days or spread over a few months.
A light lunch is provided and accommodation can be arranged for those wishing to stay over night. We do have a list of B&B and hotels in the area for more information and cost please telephone or email.
